Pantone Colour of the Year

Every year Pantone selects a colour to represent what they see taking place in our global culture. The colour they chose serves as an expression of the mood and attitude of the year to come. This year’s colour is Greenery.

Bringing forth a refreshing take, Greenery is a tangy yellow-green that speaks to our need to explore, experiment and reinvent,” said Pantone.

According to Pantone Greenery envelops the notion to breathe, reinvigorate and appreciate the great outdoors. So what does this mean for 2017? We’ve seen the rise in appreciation for craftsmanship, organic materials and recycling over the past couple of years but it is now more important then ever to the world we live in.

Pantone’s executive director Leatrice Eiseman puts it this way: “Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.”

Maybe that’s exactly what we need for 2017. Our craving to escape modern society to explore the outdoors couldn’t be more evident. Greenery might just be the perfect colour to represent what 2017 needs.

Green has been a bold colour recently used by start up companies, fashion, home décor and design, so its no wonder it’s this years chosen colour. Everyone wants to “go green”.

Pantone is forecasting Greenery to be used in fashion – providing a pop of colour in accessories. You may also see the colour this year used in home décor such as pot plants, herbs and spices, organic themed patterns and wallpapers. Graphic designers will also be following this trend and use Greenery in packaging, logos and designs.

So do you think Greenery is a good representation for 2017? Can we live up to Pantones colour prediction?
